BACK TO THE HOME PAGE

INTRODUCTION

Obtained a  photography degree in 1966 continuing  studying Fine Art at Sa n Francisco State Universiy- I was the age of the Hippie and in SF I had a band an a record contract..Studies suffered and IU eventually went to work for a photography studio gut grew dismayed with the commercial aspects devoid I=of any creativity..It wasn't the photography I wanted to pursue.. After failing to stay interested in other commercial fields I settle into workin gin Silcon Valley, pursuing my own  personal photogqarpahy

path unencumbered by by any constraints--I as totally free to roam and wander northern California..

in 1995 I left Sicilian Valley for good, taking upon a 5 year large format photography project called California Color..I supported my self as a profesionsnla tennis instructor, before partnering with

Leica Camera, Inc from 2013-2018 producing 20 . four  day "Leica in the Landscape "Workshops for  Leica Akadmie USA. Akademie.. In 2018 I started American West Workshops , and continued to develop documentary and landscape projects. In 2022 I left California for the Red Rock country and high desert in Southern Utah, where I currently reside  near Zion National;Park.

  • Like many photographers, my father gave me my first camera , a twin lens reflex Rollie copy called a Ciroflex when I was 18. The first time I looked down into its viewfinder I knew I was hooked. I had found my path of expression that had eluded me through my teen years..For the  opening photograph in the"Early Years" collection I used the Ciroflex

After I got out of art school I could finally afford to buy my own camera and being a big Cartier Bresson fan, I choose a used Leica M3, one beautiful camera . It had a 50mm dual range Summicron lens, and I paid a total of $150.00 for it. This was the only camera and lens I used for  the next 25 years..Not until 18 years later in 2013  did I employ the 35mm lens, now my preferred lens , with my digital Leicas and today it remains one of my 3 lenses use.

The times

I was never without a camera from the time I was 18...photography was my main pursuit in life, to learn, to capture what I saw..but I was shy and everything I did was hidden, so I made this image to be some else, Without any recognition or avenue into doing my own photography after making several attempts at commercial work which didn't inspire me , I chose to photograph only what intuition led me to, and remained incognito.

The Leica M Rangefinder - Why it is my Camera of Choice

For those interested I currently use the Leica M11 for all of my photography..
